Deuteronomy 5:11
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name.
We live in a society that has rejected God & His Son, Jesus Christ. One sign of this is the way ordinary people “misuse” the name of God - be it Father, Son of Holy Spirit. His name is used as an expletive expressing anything from joy to anger - in film, the media & the workplace.
It hurts the Christian, doesn’t it?
But am I - are you - also guilty of breaking this commandment? Is this commandment simply against blasphemy? You may not have blasphemed His holy name but have you used His name correctly - to His glory & honour?
Keeping this commandment positively is another matter - a matter of the heart that issues forth in words & deeds. Would you be shocked if I told you that we break it every day? Hence this Sunday’s sermon will be one that challenges our walk with Jesus & exposes our deceitful heart.
Thank the Lord that we have a Saviour whose death has gained us forgiveness & peace with our Creator!!
