Authority is increasingly becoming a 'dirty' word. In our time everyone wants to be their own 'god', deciding what is right and wrong, and resenting anyone being able to tell them what to do. In this 5th commandment, we learn that children need to learn to respect the authority of their parents, as that sets them up to respect other God given authorities. When God given authority is honoured, blessings flow to the whole community.
